The airport is located in Loiu, about a quarter of an hour from downtown Bilbao, and its white terminal is the work of architect Santiago Calatrava. When you book, please let us know your flight number and arrival time: we'll be waiting for you at the arrivals desk or at the agreed-upon location.
For private flight arrivals, please let us know when you request and we'll arrange your transportation. If you're staying in the city for a few days to visit the Guggenheim and Casco Viejo, you can pick up your car at your hotel when you begin your excursions.
San Sebastián is about an hour away by highway. At the end of Ondarreta Beach, on the rocks, stands the Comb of the Wind, a group of steel sculptures by Eduardo Chillida; Mount Igueldo, from which you can see the entire bay, can be reached by a historic funicular. The city is known for its haute cuisine: for the most popular restaurants, book well in advance, and choose a hotel with a garage, as parking on the street is difficult.
Along the coast between the two cities are Getaria, a fishing village famous for its txakoli wine, and Zarautz, with its long beach. Closer to the airport, about half an hour away, is San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a small island with a hermitage on top, connected to the mainland by a stone bridge and a long flight of steps; during peak periods, access is by reservation.
Heading south, in about an hour and a half, you reach the Rioja wine region. In Rioja Alavesa, the part of the region that lies in the Basque Country, Elciego is home to the Marqués de Riscal winery, with a building designed by Frank Gehry, the architect of the Guggenheim. In Laguardia, the Ysios winery bears the signature of Santiago Calatrava.
Haro, not far away, is another historic wine town. For a tour of the wineries, the van will carry the whole group: decide in advance who will drive and forgo the tastings.
France begins about an hour and a quarter away, beyond Irun. Biarritz can be reached in about an hour and a half to two hours, passing near Saint-Jean-de-Luz and its fishing port. Further north, Bordeaux is about three and a half hours away.
You can end your trip in France without returning to Bilbao. Some French cities have low-emission zones: let us know where you'll be driving when booking.
The roads of the Basque coast wind up and down through villages and cliffs, winding along them. A compact sports car like the Porsche 718 Boxster or the BMW M2 is agile and enjoyable to drive. The Atlantic skies often bring rain, and for trips to La Rioja or France, an SUV like the Lamborghini Urus or Range Rover is comfortable in any weather.

We'll agree on a time and place for the departure: at the airport, or at a hotel in Bilbao or San Sebastian. If you're staying in San Sebastian for the last night, allow about an hour to get back to the airport. If you're continuing your journey, the car can be left in Madrid, about four hours away, or in Galicia, at Santiago de Compostela Airport , after a drive along the Cantabrian coast.

Can I return the car in Biarritz? Yes, even if Biarritz is in France: just let us know when you book.
How do I visit Rioja wineries if I want to taste the wines? Choose a non-drinking driver from among your travel companions, or ask the wineries if they offer transportation. You can arrange the tour times with the wineries.
Should you pick up your car right away or a few days later in Bilbao? If you're staying in the city, dropping it off at your hotel on the day of your excursions is more convenient.
Is it possible to visit San Juan de Gaztelugatxe for free? During peak periods, admission requires a reservation: check before you go.
