Airports in Spain
Barajas is a very large airport, with multiple terminals, some far apart. Therefore, when you book, please indicate your flight's terminal, along with your flight number and landing time. We'll meet you in the arrivals hall of that terminal or at a mutually agreed-upon location.
For private jet arrivals, please let us know in advance which operator will be meeting you; with this information, we'll determine where to drop off the vehicle.
The airport is northeast of the capital and is connected to the M-40 and M-50 ring roads, which lead to Toledo, Segovia, or Andalusia without passing through the city center. If you're staying in central Madrid , consider having the car delivered to your hotel: the historic center has a limited traffic zone. The city also has low-emission zones: please let us know where you'll be driving when booking.
If you're arriving for a trade fair, IFEMA, the city's exhibition center, is just minutes from the airport: you can pick up your car upon arrival and go directly to the pavilions.
Alcalá de Henares, Cervantes's birthplace, with an ancient UNESCO-recognized university, is about 20 minutes east; the center can be explored on foot along Calle Mayor, a long arcaded street. Toledo is about an hour and a quarter away: for the most classic views, take the scenic route on the other bank of the Tagus, which circles the city and passes by the Mirador del Valle.
Segovia, famous for the Roman aqueduct that runs through the city and the Alcázar on the cliff, is also about an hour and a quarter away. For lunch, you can try cochinillo, the city's signature roast suckling pig.
El Escorial, the great monastery commissioned by Philip II, is about 50 minutes from the airport and can be combined on the same day with Ávila, surrounded by complete medieval walls, about an hour and a half away. A section of the walls can be walked.
To the east, Cuenca is about two hours away: its hanging houses overlook the Huécar River gorge, and its old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Closer, about 50 minutes away, is Chinchón, with a main square surrounded by wooden balconies.
Inland, distances are long and the highways cross open plateaus.
