The airport is next to Torremolinos, and Benalmádena, with its marina, is about a quarter of an hour away: those staying there are at their hotel within minutes of landing. From Benalmádena, a cable car ascends Mount Calamorro, offering sweeping views of the coast. Malaga 's city center is also nearby, but it is a restricted traffic zone: if you're staying there, it's more practical to have your car delivered to your hotel on the day of your first trip.
To the west, the Costa del Sol continues to Marbella ; to the east, the coastal road takes you to Nerja in about an hour.
Antequera, about 45 minutes north, is located at the intersection of the highways to Granada, Córdoba, and Seville, and is a good first stop on a journey into the interior. Its dolmens, large prehistoric stone tombs, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the designation also includes two nearby natural landforms.
One of the two is El Torcal, a protected area just south of the city, featuring limestone rocks shaped by wind and rain into shapes resembling stacks of plates. It can be visited on foot along marked trails, so bring comfortable shoes.
Córdoba is about two hours away.
