Rome has two airports. Fiumicino is the main airport, located about 30 km from the city center and handles most international and intercontinental flights. Ciampino is smaller and closer to the city, and is used primarily by low-cost airlines and private jets.
We deliver the car to both airports. Before your arrival, we'll arrange a meeting point with you based on your flight schedule. If your flight schedule changes, just let us know and we'll adjust the meeting time.
Rome 's historic center has limited traffic, and the streets around the main monuments are often congested. If your hotel is in the city center, we recommend not picking up your car at the airport but having it delivered directly to your hotel on the day you need it. This way, you can explore the city center on foot for the first few days and use your car when you set off on excursions.
Fiumicino and Ciampino are connected to the Grande Raccordo Anulare, the ring highway that encircles the city and allows you to travel to major destinations without entering the city center. Traffic can be heavy during rush hour; allow extra travel time.
For airport-to-hotel transfers with lots of luggage, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class van is especially convenient for families and groups.
Southeast of Rome, near Ciampino, lie the Castelli Romani: small hilltop villages, volcanic lakes, and trattorias. It's an easy-to-plan half-day trip, away from the city center's traffic.
Frascati is known for its white wine, while Castel Gandolfo overlooks Lake Albano. Some of the hillside roads are narrow: a compact sports car or a convertible makes the trip more pleasant, and you can get back to the city in the evening in about an hour.
Heading north, you'll reach southern Tuscany, with the hills of the Val d'Orcia and its wineries. Siena is about a three-hour drive away: you can visit it as a day trip or stay a few nights in a farmhouse or villa. Along the way, you can stop in Orvieto, built on a tuff cliff, or in the Val d'Orcia villages like Pienza and Montalcino.
For this type of trip, a comfortable SUV or sports sedan is a good choice, with room for luggage and cellar purchases.
Heading south, Naples can be reached in about two and a half hours on the highway. From there, you can continue towards the Amalfi Coast , where the roads are narrow and winding, making a compact car easier to handle. Parking is limited on the coast, especially in summer: it's best to choose a hotel with parking space.
You can pick up your car in Rome and return it to Campania, without having to go back: pick-up and drop-off can take place in different locations.
