In Bern's historic center, traffic is limited and everything is within walking distance, so we recommend picking up the car at your hotel and using it primarily for out-of-town trips. We can also deliver it to the main train station, a private address, or your business meeting location.
Bern is the seat of the Parliament and the federal government, and foreign embassies are also located here. For a day of official meetings with a delegation, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class van will transport everyone from one address to the next. If you're traveling alone, a discreet SUV like the BMW X5 30d or the Mercedes GLE 350de Coupé is suitable for both the city and the mountains.
Bern has a small airport with few scheduled flights, so almost all international guests land in Zurich , just over an hour away on the highway, or Geneva , just under two hours away. Delivery can be made at arrivals: please include your flight number and arrival time in the request.
From both airports, you can reach Bern by highway, so you'll need a Swiss vignette, an electronic version valid for one year, which you can purchase online by entering your license plate. Keep a valid travel document in your car, along with your driver's license: Switzerland is outside the European Union.
Thun is about half an hour from Bern, at the point where the Aare River flows out of the lake. The castle dominates the old town, and along the shore are two other castles: Oberhofen, built almost on the water, and Spiez, overlooking a bay with a small harbor.
Interlaken, about fifty minutes away, lies between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, known for its turquoise waters. Trains and cable cars depart from the city to the Jungfrau mountains. In summer, the roads along the two lakes are ideal for a convertible drive.
Grindelwald is about an hour and a quarter from Bern, at the foot of the Eiger north face. In winter, it's a popular ski resort and in summer, a base for hiking. From the Grindelwald terminal, the Eiger Express cable car and then the train take you to Jungfraujoch, Europe's highest railway station.
In the adjacent valley, Lauterbrunnen is enclosed by rock faces from which dozens of waterfalls cascade. Wengen and Mürren, above the valley, are car-free villages: you leave your car down below and take the train or cable car up. If your hotel is up there, we'll choose a delivery and return point in the valley together.
Gstaad is also part of the Bernese Oberland and can be reached in about an hour and a half, passing through Spiez and the Simmental Valley. You can pick up your car in Bern and return it directly to your chalet in Gstaad.
In summer, the Oberland region is home to popular passes, such as the Grimsel and Susten, which are open only in the warmer months. Year-round, and especially in winter, the most direct connection to the Valais region, towards Sion and Crans-Montana, is the Lötschberg car shuttle train between Kandersteg and Goppenstein: during the tunnel journey, you'll remain in your car.
East of Bern, the Emmental is a region of green hills, large wooden farms, and covered bridges over the Emme River. This is where the world-famous cheese with holes comes from: at the Affoltern show dairy, you can see how it's made. In Trubschachen, you'll find the Kambly biscuit factory, with a shop open to visitors.
From Bern, it takes about twenty minutes to reach Burgdorf, with its castle, considered the gateway to the region. The roads of the Emmental are narrow, with little traffic and gentle curves: a Porsche 718 Boxster or a Porsche 911 (992) 4S Cabriolet are suitable for an afternoon of leisurely driving through the valley's villages.
From December to March, an SUV like the Range Rover, Audi Q8, or Lamborghini Urus is best for the Oberland. During those months, every vehicle in our fleet is equipped with winter tires. If you're traveling with a large group, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class van offers space for a group or a family with lots of luggage.
From June to September, with the passes open and boats operating on the lakes, a Lamborghini Huracán Evo Spyder or a Ferrari Roma Spider make every journey a pleasure. In autumn, the roads are quieter and the forests of the Emmental and Oberland change color. For snow, you'll find all the alternatives on the luxury SUVs page.
