Luxury car rental in Davos: Forum Week and the rest of the winter

How to get there

Davos lies at 1.560 meters in the Grisons , making it the highest inhabited city in Europe. It's about two hours from Zurich via Landquart and the Prättigau Valley, an hour and a half from St. Moritz , and four hours from Milan . Those arriving from the Engadine can use the Vereina shuttle train , which takes cars through the tunnel between Sagliains and Klosters when the passes are closed.

World Economic Forum Week

In January , Davos hosts the Forum, and for that week, the location changes completely: controlled access, revised traffic flow, hotels and cars booked months in advance. Getting around by car during those days is complicated, and it's best to arrange access and parking with your hotel in advance. If your trip falls during that week, contact us well in advance: it's the only time of year when rooms truly sell out early.

The rest of the season

Outside of the Forum week, Davos and Klosters comprise one of the largest ski areas in Switzerland, peaking between Christmas and Epiphany and during the February holidays. In summer, the valley becomes a base for hiking and exploring the Graubünden passes.

Which car

A luxury SUV with all-wheel drive and winter tires is the bare minimum from December to March: the climb from Landquart and the valley's internal roads don't tolerate summer tires. For delegations, staff, and families, a luxury van is a good choice . For the warmer months, a sports sedan also makes sense.

If you come from abroad

Switzerland is not a member of the European Union : you need a passport or other identification document in addition to your driving license. To use the motorways, you need an annual vignette, which is now electronic: you can purchase it online by entering your license plate. Requirements for non-EU customers are listed in the guide to documents, deposits, and insurance.

The Spengler Cup, between Christmas and New Year's

From December 26th to 31st, Davos hosts the Spengler Cup, the oldest international ice hockey tournament, with the final at noon on New Year's Eve. During that week, hotels, restaurants, and cars are booked well in advance: if your trip falls there, plan early.

Davos and Klosters

Davos and Klosters share the ski area, with Parsenn being the largest. Klosters, smaller and quieter, is the departure point for the Vereina shuttle train to the Engadine: those staying there are just a stone's throw from St. Moritz even when the passes are closed. Always indicate which of the two towns you're staying in.

A city, not a village

At approximately 1.560 meters, Davos is one of the highest cities in Europe, with a true center along the Promenade, large hotels, and a lake that becomes a natural ice rink in winter. Traffic is that of a small town, and during peak weeks, finding parking downtown is difficult: having your car delivered directly to your hotel saves you the hassle of searching.

Davos in summer

In summer, Davos becomes a destination for hiking, mountain biking, and culture: the museum dedicated to Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, the painter who lived here, houses the world's largest collection of his works. The lake, the trails above the city, and the roads towards the Engadine and Prättigau are ideal for exploring in a convertible.

Where our customers sleep

Davos is divided into two parts, Davos Platz and Davos Dorf, connected by the Promenade. Many high-end hotels are located along the Promenade or on the sunny slopes above the city; Klosters, a quarter of an hour away, is the choice for those seeking more privacy. Always provide the exact address when requesting a quote.

FAQ

How do you get there from Zurich? It takes about two hours, passing through Landquart and the Prättigau. It's also the most common route in winter.

Are winter tires enough? In winter, our cars are always equipped with winter tires. With heavy snow on the mountain passes, snow chains may also be necessary.

Can I combine other locations? Yes: St. Moritz is about an hour and a half away, Lech about two and a half hours, and Zurich two hours. We can pick up the car at the end of the trip.

Is it possible to park downtown? Davos has covered parking along the Promenade, but during peak weeks and the WEF, they're in high demand. With delivery directly to the hotel, this isn't a problem.

Is a vignette required? Yes, for Swiss motorways: it's an annual electronic toll sticker that can be purchased online by entering your license plate.

When is the best time to visit? Between Christmas and New Year's, during the Spengler Cup, and during WEF week, the resort is fully booked; February and March offer plenty of snow and more availability.
