Why rent a luxury car on Lake Como?

Lake Como is arguably Italy's most glamorous lake, renowned worldwide for its historic villas—from Villa d'Este to Villa Balbianello—overlooking clear waters surrounded by mountains. The narrow, scenic roads that run along its shores, between Como, Bellagio, Varenna, and Menaggio, are perfect for a sports car or convertible, with views that change at every turn.

Luxury car rental on Lake Como: what you need to know

Where we deliver your car on the lake

On Lake Como, many vacation rentals are villas with gardens overlooking the water, accessed through a gate along a narrow road. We'll bring your car to the villa, the hotel entrance, or the dock where your boat docks, agreeing on the exact time and location with you in advance.

We deliver to Como, Cernobbio, Tremezzo, Menaggio, Bellagio, Varenna, and other towns on both shores. The car can be picked up on the lake, in Milan , at the airport, or abroad.

How to get to the lake

From Milan Malpensa Airport to Como, it's about an hour's drive; Linate, just outside Milan, is especially convenient for flights from other European cities. At both airports, we can meet you at arrivals with your car waiting for you.

From Milan, Como is about an hour away on the highway; for Bellagio, Menaggio, or Varenna, add a stretch on the lakeside roads, which is slower than it seems on the map.

Regina Road and the other roads around the lake

On the western shore, the Regina road follows the lake from Cernobbio towards Tremezzo, Menaggio, and the upper lake, passing through villages whose houses overlook the road. It is very narrow in several sections, with buses taking up almost the entire lane, and traffic slows considerably in the summer.

The road from Como to Bellagio is also winding, and in some places, there's barely enough room to pass another car. Parking in the towns is limited and almost always paid: before leaving, ask your hotel or restaurant if they have parking spaces for guests.

Ferries and boats

On the lake, a boat is often faster than a car. Regular ferries connect Como with the towns on both shores, and in the center of the lake, ferries also carry cars between Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio, and Cadenabbia. This way, you can cross from one shore to the other without having to circle the lake.

If you're arriving or departing on a private boat, we can arrange delivery and collection at the dock you specify.

Which car to choose

On the lakeside roads, width and agility count more than power. The Porsche 911 (992) 4S Cabriolet and the Porsche 718 Boxster effortlessly traverse the Queen's villages, with their roofs open along the water; among the Ferraris, the Roma Spider is suitable for leisurely routes. You'll find these models among the supercars.

For a family with suitcases and strollers, an SUV, such as the Audi Q7 or Range Rover Sport, is more practical, requiring careful handling on narrow stretches. For a group, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class is a good choice: on the narrow Regina highway, which is used by regular buses, a long vehicle requires a slower pace, and it's a good idea to know where to park in advance.

Bellagio, Varenna and Tremezzina

Bellagio occupies the tip of the promontory where the lake divides into the Como and Lecco branches. The town can be explored on foot, along stairways and winding alleys, and the gardens of Villa Melzi overlook the water. On the opposite shore, Varenna boasts colorful lakeside houses, a promenade leading from the pier to the town center, and a path leading up to Vezio Castle.

In Tremezzo, you can visit Villa Carlotta, with its large botanical garden overlooking the lake, while Menaggio boasts a spacious lakeside promenade and a lively historic center. You can visit these villages in a single day by ferry, with or without a car.

Day trips from the lake

From Como, the highway takes you to Lugano in less than an hour, crossing the border at Chiasso. Remember that Switzerland is not part of the European Union: bring a valid travel document and your driver's license. If you take the Swiss highway, purchase the annual electronic vignette online, indicating your vehicle's license plate.

Traveling up the lake to Chiavenna and then over the Maloja Pass, you reach the Engadine: Saint Moritz is about two hours from Menaggio. From the upper lake, you enter Valtellina, an Alpine valley of terraced vineyards and stone villages. If you want to combine two lakes in the same trip, Lake Garda is about two hours from Como.

The season on the lake

The season runs from April to October: in spring, azaleas and rhododendrons bloom in the villa gardens; July and August are the busiest months; September is quieter. Many large hotels close for the winter; those who visit during those months will always find our cars equipped with winter tires.

Porsches on the lakeside roads

If you choose a Porsche, there is a page dedicated to Porsche rentals on Lake Como : the climb to Ghisallo, the Lecco shore, the Spluga and the Stelvio.
