Menton (Mentone in Italian) is the last town in France before the border with Italy and Ventimiglia. We deliver the car to a hotel on the seafront, a villa in the Garavan hills, the port, or a private address in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.
You can return it elsewhere: at Nice Airport, in Monte-Carlo, in Italy or in another European country.
The closest airport is Nice Côte d'Azur, about forty minutes away by highway. It takes about three and a half hours from Milan, passing through Genoa and Ventimiglia. The Principality of Monaco is about a quarter of an hour away.
Menton is connected to the rest of the coast by the low corniche, which follows the sea, and by the A8 motorway, which continues beyond the border into Italy as the A10. The higher corniches, on the hills, offer expansive sea views and are popular with leisure drivers.
The border with Italy can be crossed in just a few minutes. France and Italy are part of the Schengen area, but it's always a good idea to carry a valid ID and your car's documents.
The old town rises from the sea with narrow alleys and stairways leading up to the Basilica of Saint Michael. It's an area best explored on foot. There are public parking lots along the Promenade du Soleil and near the ports, but they fill up quickly in high season: ask your hotel if it has a parking space.
On the waterfront is the Jean Cocteau Museum, dedicated to the artist who spent much time in Menton. Cocteau also decorated the wedding hall in the town hall. These two stops are easy to combine with a stroll through the old town.
Menton has two ports: the Old Port, at the foot of the historic center, and the Port de Garavan, near the Italian border. The beaches are mostly pebbled, with a few private beach clubs. If you arrive by boat, we can deliver your car to the port.
Menton is known for its lemons and its mild climate, which has favored the creation of many gardens. Every February, the Lemon Festival takes place, with parades and large citrus displays in the Biovès Gardens. During the festival weeks, the city is very busy, and traffic in the city center slows down.
Among the most famous gardens are the Val Rahmeh, a botanical garden with tropical plants, and the Serre de la Madone. Just across the Italian border, in Mortola, are the Hanbury Botanical Gardens, overlooking the sea.
For the coast between Menton and Monaco, a convertible is the natural choice: a Ferrari F8 Spider, Ferrari Roma Spider, or Porsche 911 (992) 4S Cabriolet, from our range of supercars . Those who prefer more space for luggage and passengers can choose an SUV like the Range Rover or the Mercedes-AMG G63.
For large families and groups, there is the Mercedes-Benz V-Class van , with space for a group or a family with lots of luggage.
Monte Carlo , with its casino and port, is about twenty minutes away. Roquebrune-Cap-Martin has a medieval village overlooking the sea and a coastal path around the cape. Èze, perched on a rocky outcrop, can be reached in about half an hour along the corniche, and Nice in about forty minutes.
Towards Italy, Sanremo is about half an hour away . Ventimiglia's Friday market draws many visitors from France, while Dolceacqua, further inland, boasts a medieval bridge and a castle.
Inland, a few kilometers from the coast, are hilltop villages like Gorbio, Sainte-Agnès, and Castellar, accessible via narrow, scenic roads. These short outings are perfect for a morning or late afternoon when the light is softer, and offer a bird's-eye view of Menton and the sea. For these roads, a car that isn't too wide, like a Porsche 718 Boxster, is best.
Menton has one of the mildest climates on the coast and is pleasant even in winter. February is the month of the Lemon Festival, spring is ideal for gardens, and summer is for the beach. Between late May and early June, the Monaco Grand Prix brings heavy traffic to the entire area.
