Luxury car rental in Milan: how it really works

Where we deliver the car to you

In Milan, delivery takes place wherever you need it: to your hotel, a private address, your office, or directly to the airport. The two city airports have very different travel times: Linate is about 5 miles (8 km) from the city center, under twenty minutes away outside rush hour, while Malpensa is about 30 miles (50 km) out and usually takes forty to fifty minutes. Orio al Serio, in Bergamo, is the third gateway for those arriving on low-cost flights and is often the preferred choice for those continuing on to the lakes.

Area B and Area C: What to know before entering the city center

Milan has two traffic-regulated zones that surprise almost all foreign visitors. Area B covers almost the entire city and is a low-emissions zone: it excludes the most polluting vehicles, but not modern cars. Area C is much smaller and covers the Cerchia dei Bastioni, the historic heart of the city surrounding the Duomo. On weekdays, access is subject to a fee, and during peak traffic hours, it is restricted.

In practice: the vehicles in our fleet are new and have no access issues, but if your plan involves entering and exiting the center several times, it's a good idea to let us know when you book. This way, we can explain what applies to the vehicle you've chosen and avoid fines arriving months later, back home, in a different country.

Which car makes sense in Milan

It depends on what you need to do with it. To get around the city, between tight parking lots and the streets of the historic center, a sporty city car or compact sedan is much more comfortable than a five-meter off-road vehicle. For transfers to and from Malpensa with luggage, or for a family, a luxury SUV solves everything. For an event, a photo shoot, a wedding, or an evening at La Scala, a supercar is the reason to rent it. For groups, crews, or delegations, a luxury van is often the most practical solution.

Milan as a starting point

Some of our customers don't rent to Milan: they rent from Milan. Distances help. Lake Como is an hour away, the Monza racetrack is half an hour, Franciacorta is just over an hour, Lake Maggiore is an hour and a quarter. Further afield, but easily reachable within a day: Portofino is two hours away, Saint Moritz and the Engadine in three, Monte Carlo in three and a half. We also deliver and collect these routes at your destination, if you prefer to arrive by train or plane and find the car there.

The periods in which it is advisable to move early

Milan's schedule makes cars and hotels disappear at the same time. The Salone del Mobile in April, the two fashion weeks between February and September, the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in September, and the period between Christmas and Epiphany are the weeks when availability is most limited. If your trip falls during one of these, let us know a few weeks in advance: it's not a commercial rule, it's simply when the fleet is most in demand.

If you come from abroad

A driver's license, ID or passport, and a credit card in the driver's name: these are the basics. For those arriving from outside the European Union, however, there are details that vary from country to country, from the validity of the license to the international driving permit. We've compiled them in a guide dedicated to documents, deposits, and insurance , which answers the questions we receive most frequently from American, Israeli, Arab, and Russian customers.

If you're thinking of crossing a border—Switzerland, Monaco, France—let us know when you request a quote: permits, vignettes, and, in France, the environmental sticker will change.
