Why rent a luxury car in Murcia?

Murcia combines a baroque historic center with a history-rich hinterland, with its monumental cathedral and proximity to the Mar Menor. It's a convenient base for exploring Spain's southeastern coast in a luxury car. Murcia in a luxury car: from the Real Casino to the Mar Menor and Cartagena

Hotels, huerta and airports

In Murcia, your car will go wherever you stay: your hotel, an apartment, or a villa in the huerta, the countryside of vegetable gardens and orchards surrounding the city. The main streets of the historic center, such as Trapería and Platería, are pedestrianized: those staying there pick up their car at the hotel and use it for excursions.

Murcia Region International Airport, in Corvera, is about half an hour from the city; Alicante Airport is about an hour away. In both cases, when booking, please let us know your flight and arrival time, and we'll decide together whether to meet in the arrivals area or elsewhere. Also let us know where you plan to drive, as several cities in Spain have low-emission zones.

The Royal Casino and the center

Along Calle Trapería is the Real Casino de Murcia, a 19th-century club open to visitors. Behind the façade are a Moorish-style patio, a library, a grand ballroom, and other rooms, each decorated in a different style.

In the city center, the Salzillo Museum houses the wooden sculptures of Francisco Salzillo, a Murcian Baroque artist, which are still featured in the Holy Week processions. The Segura River flows through the city, and its banks are a pleasant place for a stroll on cool summer evenings.

Mar Menor and La Manga

The Mar Menor is a saltwater lagoon separated from the Mediterranean by La Manga, a long, thin strip of land, built up with hotels and apartments. The water is shallow and calm, suitable for families with children and sports like sailing; the nearest towns on the shore, like Los Alcázares, are about forty minutes from Murcia.

Driving along La Manga, you have the sea on both sides: on one side, the tranquil lagoon, on the other, the open Mediterranean. Between La Manga and Cartagena, the Calblanque Regional Park boasts undeveloped beaches, accessible via a stretch of dirt road suitable for an SUV; in the height of summer, private vehicle access may be limited, so check before you set out.

Cartagena and the Roman theatre

Cartagena, about forty-five minutes from Murcia, was founded by the Carthaginians and later became an important Roman port. The Roman theater, unearthed at the end of the 20th century beneath the old quarter, can be visited starting from a modern museum connected to the ruins. The center alternates modernist buildings, ancient ruins, and the pedestrianized Calle Mayor, which leads to the port.

The port welcomes cruise ships and yachts: those disembarking from their boats can find their cars at the dock, at the marina. From here, Cabo de Palos, with its lighthouse and seafood restaurants, is about half an hour away.

Caravaca de la Cruz

About an hour inland, Caravaca de la Cruz is a pilgrimage town: in the castle at the top of the town, the sanctuary houses the relic of the True Cross. Along the way, you pass through the Bullas wine region, and the landscape changes, with cultivated hills, pine forests, and mountains in the background.

The historic center has steep streets and limited parking: leave your car in the lower part and walk up to the sanctuary, from which the view sweeps across the surrounding countryside.

Golf in the region

Thanks to its mild winters, the Murcia region boasts numerous golf courses, both near the city and along the coast. The best-known is La Manga Club, a resort near Cartagena with several courses and accommodations. We'll deliver your car to the resort, hotel, or villa where you're staying.

For traveling between courses with golf bags, an SUV like the Range Rover, BMW X7 40d, or BMW X5 30d offers more space than a sports car. A group of golfers can travel together in the Mercedes-Benz V-Class van, which has room for a group or a family with lots of luggage.

Which car and in which season

For coastal roads and evenings on the Mar Menor, a convertible like the Porsche 718 Boxster or the Ferrari Roma Spider, among our sports cars and supercars, is a pleasant choice. Murcia is very hot in July and August: keep the top closed during the hottest hours and plan early morning excursions. Spring, autumn, and winter are the most comfortable seasons for visiting the city, Cartagena, and the interior.

Towards Alicante, Valencia and Andalusia

Alicante is about an hour away by highway, Valencia about two and a half hours, and Granada about three. If your itinerary ends there, you can leave the car at your destination and not have to return to Murcia.
