Geneva Airport is located right on the border with France. For this reason, it's the preferred stopover for many families heading to the Swiss ski resorts of Valais and the French resorts of Haute-Savoie and Savoie. Chamonix, for example, is about an hour's drive away.
The seven-seater Land Rover Defender 110 lets you tackle these journeys with the whole family on board. There's plenty of room for luggage, skis, and snowboard bags, and when all the seats aren't needed, the third row folds down to increase cargo capacity. On snowy roads and climbs to chalets, all-wheel drive makes all the difference.
When booking, please provide your flight number and arrival time. The Defender will be delivered to you at the airport, and from there you can head straight to the mountains or your hotel on the lake. Alternatively, we can deliver it to your address in downtown Geneva.
Pickup doesn't have to take place in Geneva. You can return the car to your chalet, a French town, or another European city at the end of your trip. Just indicate this when requesting a quote.
On the Swiss side, roads lead to Verbier , Crans-Montana , and other towns in the Valais. This uses the Swiss motorway, which requires a vignette. The annual electronic version can be purchased online by entering your license plate before entering the motorway.
From the French side, you can reach Chamonix , Megève , and, with a longer journey, the major resorts of Savoy like Courchevel and Val d'Isère. In France, motorways are toll roads: having a payment card handy makes going through the toll booths quicker.
Remember that you're crossing from a non-EU country to a European Union country. Keep all passengers' passports in an easily accessible place, as there may be checks at the border crossing.
In winter, the Defender always comes with winter tires. Climbing up to the ski resorts can be challenging on snowy days: travel slowly, check the weather forecast before setting off, and bear in mind that on Saturdays, when ski vacations change, traffic heading up to the valleys is often heavy.
Parking near the center is difficult in the busiest towns, and some town centers are pedestrianized. Ask your hotel or chalet manager where you can leave your car: there's often a reserved spot or covered garage.
In warm weather, the Defender is useful for touring around Lake Geneva, visiting Lausanne and the vineyards overlooking the water, or heading up into the valleys for a day of hiking. With seven seats, you can bring friends or family without having to carry a second car.
The roads along the lake are pleasant, but on summer weekends, the shoreline towns fill up with visitors. Start in the morning and choose restaurants with parking, or leave your car in a covered parking lot at the entrance to the town and continue on foot.
Even in summer, the mountains are nearby. Chamonix and the Valais valleys offer cable cars, alpine lakes, and child-friendly trails. The Defender will take you to the starting point of your hikes, equipped with backpacks, mountain strollers, and spare clothes for everyone.
For larger groups, there's the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, with space for a group or a family with lots of luggage. For a couple, the Range Rover Sport or Mercedes-AMG G63 offer space and comfort in a more compact package.
If your summer holiday is mainly on the lake, a convertible like the Porsche 911 (992) 4S Cabriolet can accompany the Defender for evening outings for two.
