7-seater Land Rover Defender in St. Moritz: Explore the Engadine with the whole family

Why you need a spacious car in St. Moritz

A week in St. Moritz isn't just about the town. The ski areas are spread throughout the valley, mountain restaurants are scattered throughout the villages, and many chalets are located on steep roads. With kids, ski instructors to reach, and equipment to move every day, a large car makes the day easier.

The seven-seater Land Rover Defender 110 lets you carry the whole family's skis, boots, and helmets and move together. On packed snow and on chalet garage ramps, the all-wheel drive provides stability and safety.

How to get to Engadine by car

In winter, the Engadine can be reached from the north via the Julier Pass and from the south, from Italy, via the Maloja Pass, which connects the valley with Chiavenna and the Lake Como area . Both remain open even during the cold months, except for temporary closures due to bad weather. The Albula Pass, however, is closed in winter.

If you're coming from Milan , we can deliver the Defender to you in the city and you can go up to the Engadine via Maloja. If you're coming from the north, the Julier route is the most common option. In any case, check the conditions of the passes before leaving.

For those traveling by private plane, Samedan Airport is just a few minutes from St. Moritz. We can also deliver your car there upon arrival, so you can reach your chalet straight away.

Delivery to chalet, hotel or airport

The most convenient way is to have the Defender delivered directly to your accommodation. Just provide us with the address of your chalet or hotel and your arrival time, and the car will be ready and waiting at your door. We can pick it up at the same location at the end of your stay, or at another location or country if you continue your journey.

In winter, cars are always equipped with winter tires. If you plan to use Swiss highways, for example, to Chur or Zurich, purchase the annual electronic vignette online, indicating your license plate. Keep your documents with you, as Switzerland is not part of the European Union.

The days in the valley

From St. Moritz, you can reach Celerina, Pontresina, Silvaplana, and Sils in just a few minutes. Each ski area has its own parking lots: on sunny days and during school holidays, they fill up quickly, so it's best to leave in the morning.

There's limited parking in town. Many hotels have a garage: ask for one upon arrival, so your Defender stays indoors overnight and is ready to go in the morning, with no snow to clear.

In the evening, many families dine in restaurants outside of town, sometimes along narrow, dimly lit roads. After sunset, temperatures drop rapidly, and ice forms easily on the asphalt: drive slowly, especially downhill, and always keep gloves and a window scraper in the car.

St. Moritz in summer

When the snow melts, the Engadine valley fills with lakes, hiking trails, and cycle paths. The lowered third row leaves room for bikes, backpacks, and hiking gear, allowing you to easily reach the starting points for hikes in the upper valley.

Even the passes closed in winter are open in summer, making the valley a base for longer trips to Davos or Ticino. Before setting out, check travel times, as the mountain roads take longer than expected.

Alternatives for your stay

For a larger group, you can book the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, which offers space for a group or family with lots of luggage, even for transfers from Milan or Zurich. You'll find it among the luxury vans . For a couple, the Mercedes-AMG G63 and Lamborghini Urus are all-wheel drive alternatives.
