Zurich Airport is often the starting point for a mountain holiday in Graubünden or Central Switzerland. In these cases, the car needs to transport many people, heavy luggage, skis, boots, and other equipment. The 7-seater Land Rover Defender 110 is ideal for this type of trip.
The seven seats allow a large family to travel together, without splitting between two cars. When there are fewer passengers, the third row folds down, increasing cargo space. All-wheel drive and off-road capability help you on mountain roads, even on snowy stretches near chalets.
The airport is located in Kloten, about 10-15 kilometers from the center of Zurich. We'll deliver your Defender upon arrival: just let us know your flight and time, and the car will be waiting for you, ready to go. If you prefer to stay a few days in the city before hitting the mountains, we can also deliver it to your hotel in central Zurich.
The return can take place at the airport, at your hotel, or directly at the ski resort. You can also terminate the rental in another country, such as Italy or Austria, if your trip continues beyond the border.
Switzerland is not part of the European Union: keep your passport and driving documents handy, even for border controls. To use Swiss highways, you need an annual electronic vignette, which you can purchase online by entering your car's license plate. It's best to do so before leaving the airport, as the highways begin immediately.
In winter, cars are always equipped with winter tires. Conditions in the mountains change rapidly: before setting off, check the weather forecast and the condition of the roads and Alpine passes, some of which are closed during the cold months.
Speed checks are frequent on Swiss roads, and fines are high. Respect the speed limit even on seemingly clear stretches of road, especially at town entrances and in tunnels.
Many flights arrive in Zurich in the early afternoon. In winter, it gets dark early, so consider whether to head straight for the mountains or spend a night in the city and start the journey the next morning, in daylight.
Along the highways, there are rest stops where you can stop for food and a rest for the little ones. Pack everything you need for the trip in one bag so you don't have to unload the entire trunk at the first stop.
Many families set off from Zurich for Davos , Andermatt , or St. Moritz in Engadine. These journeys last several hours and are best undertaken in a spacious, stable car, with stops along the way.
In mountain resorts, parking lots near the ski lifts fill up quickly on sunny days. With the Defender, you can load your skis in the back and reach the lifts early in the morning, before the queues. In some resorts, part of the center is closed to traffic: check with your hotel.
The Defender isn't just a snow car. In the summer, families use it to visit the lakes of central Switzerland, climb passes open in the warmer months, and explore mountain trails. The cargo space can accommodate disassembled bicycles, backpacks, and hiking gear.
In the city, however, a large car is less practical. If your plan includes mostly visits to downtown Zurich, you can pick up the Defender on the day you leave for the mountains and use public transportation the days before.
For larger groups, there's the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, with space for a group or a family with lots of luggage. Those looking for a more premium SUV can choose the Mercedes-AMG G63 or the Range Rover, while the Audi Q7 and BMW X7 40d are comfortable options for long trips. Find all the models on the luxury SUVs page.
Does the Defender have winter tires? Yes, our vehicles always come with winter tires in the winter.
Do you need a Swiss vignette? Yes, for motorways: you can purchase one online in electronic format, indicating your license plate, before using them.
Is there enough room for seven people and skis? When traveling with seven people, the trunk won't accommodate all your ski gear. For a group with a lot of gear, consider a second vehicle or the V-Class.
Can I return the car to a ski resort? Yes. Pickup can take place at your hotel or chalet, even in a different location from the drop-off location.
What documents are needed to drive in Switzerland? Bring your passport and driver's license. Switzerland is not in the European Union and there may be checks at the border.
Can I pick up my car in central Zurich instead of at the airport? Of course: the car can be delivered to your hotel or a private address in the city.
Can we cancel the reservation? Yes, cancellation is free up to 72 hours before delivery. The model is always guaranteed: you'll receive the exact car you booked.
