Why rent a luxury car in Positano?

Positano is perhaps the most photographed village on the Amalfi Coast: colorful houses clinging to the cliffside, sloping down to a pebble beach and turquoise sea, in a setting that has captivated filmmakers, writers, and travelers from around the world. Reaching it behind the wheel of a luxury car, driving along the state road that climbs between gulfs and promontories, is already part of the experience.

Luxury car rental in Positano: what you need to know

A village made of stairs

Positano is built on the steep slope that descends from the Lattari Mountains to the sea. The state road passes through the upper part of town, and an internal road winds down to the center; the rest is explored on foot, along stairways and alleys lined with shops, cafes, and terraces overlooking the sea.

Before booking your hotel, ask how many steps separate your room from the parking spot: some hotels require just a few meters, others a long flight of steps. Several hotels offer a luggage service to carry your bags to your room.

Parking in Positano

Parking in Positano is almost entirely private: a few paid garages have high rates and are often full during the summer months. Stopping along the state road, even for just a few minutes, immediately slows down traffic and creates traffic jams in both directions.

The simplest solution is a hotel with parking or valet parking where you can collect your car. If your hotel doesn't have parking, we can deliver the car only for the days you actually use it, such as for trips outside the Amalfi Coast.

Spiaggia Grande and Fornillo

Spiaggia Grande, beneath the church of Santa Maria Assunta with its majolica dome, is the center of Positano life: here are the beach clubs, seaside restaurants, and the pier from which boats depart. Fornillo, the town's second beach, is more secluded and can be reached on foot via a path along the cliff, next to an ancient watchtower.

Private boats also depart from the pier to explore the coastal coves and Li Galli, the small archipelago off Positano.

The Path of the Gods and Nocelle

Above Positano runs one of the most popular hiking trails on the coast: the Path of the Gods, which begins in the Agerola area. The trail follows the mountainside halfway up, with the sea and villages far below, and arrives in Nocelle, a small hamlet high above Positano, reachable by car via Montepertuso.

This hike takes several hours, so wear suitable footwear and bring water. The route isn't a circular one: it's best to reach Agerola by bus or taxi and leave your car at the hotel, so you don't have to go back looking for it at the end of the hike.

Hydrofoils to Capri and Amalfi

From the Spiaggia Grande pier, during the summer, hydrofoils and ferries depart for Capri and Amalfi. On Capri, you get around on foot and by the island's public transport, while reaching Amalfi by sea avoids the state road during peak traffic hours.

On days dedicated to the islands or the beach, the car remains in the hotel garage, ready for trips inland or to Naples.

Which car to choose

For those traveling as a couple, a short, narrow car makes everything easier: Smart Fortwo, Smart Brabus, Abarth 595 Turismo Cabrio, or Mini GP3, on the city car page . They fit in smaller garages and make it easier to get past oncoming buses on the state road.

For a family or a group of friends, there's the Mercedes-Benz V-Class: you'll find it among the luxury vans , but on the Amalfi Coast roads, it requires a slower pace. If you want a supercar, consider using it on stretches with a lot of highway, such as between Rome and Naples, and choosing a smaller car for the days in Positano.

How to get there and where to go

From Naples Airport to Positano, it takes about an hour and a half, crossing the Sorrento Peninsula. We can deliver the car upon arrival, or in Naples after a few days in the city, and pick it up in Positano or elsewhere.

Heading west, the road takes you to Sorrento in less than an hour; heading east, you pass Praiano and Amalfi, the central stretch of the Amalfi Coast , all the way to Ravello. Pompeii, with its excavations, is about an hour's drive away.

The season in Positano

The season runs from April to October. In July and August, the town is packed and the state road is often congested in the middle of the day, so it's best to plan your car excursions early in the morning. Between November and March, many hotels and restaurants close, and Positano becomes very quiet.
