Kutná Hora, a UNESCO World Heritage site with the Cathedral of St. Barbara and the Sedlec Ossuary, is about an hour and a quarter away. Karlovy Vary, a spa town with colonnades and historic hotels, is about two hours west. Český Krumlov, with its castle overlooking the Vltava River, is about two and a half hours south. It can be done in a day, but an overnight stay makes the trip more relaxing.
Karlštejn Castle, built to house the crown jewels, is about forty minutes from Prague and an easy half-day. Plzeň, the city of Pilsner beer, can be reached in about an hour and a quarter via the highway to Germany. Mělník, where the Vltava meets the Elbe, is about half an hour north, among vineyards and a riverside castle with a visitable cellar.
Prague's historic center, including the Old Town, Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can be explored on foot. The streets are narrow and often cobbled, and many parking spaces are reserved for residents. It's best to leave your car in your hotel garage or a public underground parking lot and get around on foot or by tram.
Prague's tram and metro systems are efficient, so a car is primarily useful for getting out of the city. If you're staying in a hotel in the Old Town, ask in advance how car access works: it's sometimes easier to pick up a car at a nearby pick-up point.
For a group traveling to Karlovy Vary or Český Krumlov, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class van offers space for a group or family with lots of luggage, all traveling together. For a family, there's also an SUV like the 7-seater Land Rover Defender 110.
Is it possible to visit Český Krumlov in a day? Yes, but the journey takes about two and a half hours each way; spending the night there is more comfortable.

In Prague, we deliver to hotels, private addresses, and Václav Havel Airport , which is about 9 miles (15 km) from the city center and can be reached in twenty to thirty minutes, depending on traffic. Many customers arrive by plane and find the car at the terminal; others prefer to have it delivered to their hotel the next day, as a car is rarely needed in the historic center.
The first: the Czech Republic is in the European Union but not in the eurozone . Payment is in crowns, and parking lots and petrol stations remind everyone of this.
Second: to drive on Czech motorways, you need a vignette , which is now electronic and tied to your license plate. You can purchase it online in minutes, even for a few days; if your itinerary changes en route, please let us know.
The historic center, between Staré Město and Malá Strana, is largely pedestrianized, with narrow, cobbled streets: convenient for exploring on foot, but inconvenient by car. A car is best for getting out of the city, not for driving through it.
For getting around the city and historic districts, a sporty city car or compact sedan is the right choice. For trips to the mountains or castles, with luggage and passengers, a luxury SUV offers more scope. For an event, a wedding, or a photo shoot in the baroque center, a supercar has an effect that's hard to replicate elsewhere. For groups, a luxury van is the perfect choice.
Prague is well-positioned: Karlovy Vary is an hour and a half away, Dresden two hours, Vienna three and a half hours, and Munich four. These are all routes that can be easily done in a day or a long weekend, and we also deliver and collect from your destination city.
The Christmas markets and New Year's Eve are the busiest times of the year, followed by spring between April and June. During those weeks, it's best to plan your visit a few weeks in advance.
