About an hour and a half south of Rome, along the Pontine coast, Sabaudia is a town founded in the 1930s, with Rationalist buildings and a long dune beach between the sea and Lake Paola. Behind it rises the Circeo promontory, part of a national park with woods, trails, and views of the Pontine Islands.
San Felice Circeo, on the other side of the promontory, has a small historic center nestled in the hills. It's a perfect day trip in a convertible on sunny days, with lunch by the sea and a return trip to town in the evening.
Tivoli is located east of Rome, less than an hour's drive. Villa d'Este is famous for its terraced gardens and Renaissance fountains; Hadrian's Villa, just outside the town, is the grand residence built by Emperor Hadrian. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and can be visited together in a single day.
At Villa d'Este, it's best to arrive at opening time, before the organized groups. Hadrian's Villa occupies a very large area: plan on at least two or three hours and wear comfortable shoes.
Can I pick up my car at the airport? Yes, at Rome Airport , and return it in the city or elsewhere.
Can I leave my car in Naples or on the Amalfi Coast? Yes, the trip can end in another city: for example, in Naples or at a hotel on the Amalfi Coast.
What car for these trips? A convertible for the Circeo coast; for a family, an SUV or van.
Can you visit Sabaudia and Tivoli in one day? Yes, both allow you to leave in the morning and return to Rome for dinner.
What guarantees do I have when I book? Two: the booked model is always guaranteed, and cancellation is free up to 72 hours before delivery.
In Rome, we deliver to hotels, private addresses, villas outside the city, or directly to the airport. Fiumicino Airport is about 19 miles (30 km) from the city center and takes thirty-five to forty-five minutes; Ciampino Airport is much closer, about 9 miles (15 km), but primarily serves low-cost flights. Some customers arrive by train at Termini and prefer to pick up their car there: this can also be arranged.
Rome doesn't have just one limited traffic zone, but several—Centro Storico, Tridente, Trastevere, Testaccio, San Lorenzo—each with its own hours and all monitored by cameras. There's no barrier to stop you: you enter, no one says anything, and the fine arrives months later at your address, even abroad.
This is why, when you book, we always ask you where you're staying: many hotels within the ZTL can register your license plate for the duration of your stay, but this must be done beforehand, not afterward. If your plan involves traveling in and out of the city center, we'll discuss this during the quote process.
Rome's city center is made up of narrow streets, cobblestones, and limited parking. For getting around the city, a sporty city car or compact sedan is much more practical than a flagship. For trips to and from Fiumicino Airport with luggage, or for a family, a luxury SUV is the obvious choice. For a wedding, a photoshoot, or an event, a supercar is the very reason for renting. For groups, crews, and delegations, a luxury van can carry everyone in one vehicle and with only one parking spot to find.
Many customers rent in Rome to go elsewhere. The Castelli Romani are forty minutes away, Tivoli with Villa d'Este is three-quarters of an hour, Naples is two hours away, the Amalfi Coast is three, Florence is three, and Umbria and southern Tuscany are a couple of hours away. We also deliver and collect at your destination: if you prefer to arrive by train and pick up the car on site, that's also possible.
Easter week , the April 25th and May 1st long weekends , all of May and June , the second half of September , and the period between Christmas and Epiphany are the weeks when Rome fills up and availability is reduced. This isn't a commercial rule: it's simply when cars are most in demand.
A driver's license, ID or passport, and a credit card in the driver's name are the basic requirements. For those arriving from outside the European Union, details vary from country to country: we've compiled them in the guide to documents, deposits, and insurance.
If your trip involves leaving Italy, please mention it when requesting a quote: permits and, for some countries, motorway vignettes and environmental stickers may change.
