Saint-Tropez: Practical tips for your stay

Where we deliver the car to you

We'll deliver your car to your accommodations: in front of your villa's gate, at the hotel entrance, or on the port dock if you're arriving by boat. Many villas are located on the hills of Gassin and Ramatuelle, along private or dirt roads. Please provide us with the exact address and the contact information of the property manager, so your car can arrive without unnecessary detours.

At the end of your stay, you can leave the car where your trip ends: we can pick it up at the airport before your flight, in Cannes , or in another European country if your trip continues.

Airports: Toulon-Hyères and Nice

The closest airport with scheduled flights is Toulon-Hyères, about an hour's drive away. Those arriving from further afield, however, most often land at Nice Côte d'Azur Airport, which has more international flights: in summer, the journey takes about an hour and a half to two hours, depending on traffic.

We can deliver your car to either airport. If you prefer not to drive immediately after a long flight, take a taxi to the villa and have your car delivered the next day.

Summer traffic and sea shuttles

There's only one main road into town by car, and in July and August, traffic slows it down for hours. The longest queues form in the late morning and when returning from the beaches. If you have an appointment downtown, leave plenty of time.

A practical alternative is to cross the gulf by boat. Shuttles depart from Sainte-Maxime and, with a short crossing, take you to the port of Saint-Tropez, saving you the hassle of finding parking in town.

The port, the Citadelle and Place des Lices

The port is the center of town life: yachts moored along the docks, cafés with tables on the pier, and, behind them, the colorful houses of the old fishing village. Near the port, the Annonciade Museum exhibits works by painters who stayed here between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, such as Signac and Matisse.

At the top, the Citadelle houses a museum dedicated to maritime history and offers a sweeping view of the gulf. Place des Lices, shaded by tall plane trees, hosts a Provençal market on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, selling local produce, fabrics, and household items.

Pampelonne and the beaches of Ramatuelle

Pampelonne is a long sandy beach on the eastern coast of the peninsula, in the municipality of Ramatuelle. It is home to beach clubs, restaurants, and public areas; on weekends and in August, it's best to book your sun lounger and lunch a few days in advance.

For a more peaceful setting, there are small beaches along the coastal path, which follows the edge of the peninsula.

Gassin, Ramatuelle and the vineyards

Gassin and Ramatuelle are two medieval hilltop villages, with tightly packed stone houses and shady squares. Visit them in the late afternoon, before dinner, when the heat dies down.

The Côtes de Provence vineyards, known especially for their rosé wine, extend around the villages. Many estates sell bottles directly from the cellar, and some offer tastings by reservation: if you plan on tasting, leave the guide to someone else.

The right car for Saint-Tropez

For hilly roads and summer evenings, a discovery is the most pleasant choice: find details in the guide to renting a Ferrari in Saint-Tropez . If the villa has a dirt or steep access road, the Mercedes-AMG G63 's all-wheel drive gives you greater peace of mind.

For traveling together, the Mercedes V300d offers space for a group or a family with lots of luggage. For tight parking spaces near the port, you can add one of our city cars , such as the Smart Fortwo or the Mini GP3.

Seasons

In July and August, the villas are packed and traffic peaks. In May, June, and September, the water is already pleasant and the roads are clearer. The regattas in late September and early October once again fill the harbor with sailboats and visitors: if you're traveling during those weeks, book your car and accommodation early.

FAQ

Can you arrange for the car to be picked up in Toulon-Hyères? Yes, as well as at Nice Airport. All we need is your flight and landing time.

Is it worth taking the boat from Sainte-Maxime? Yes, especially in July and August: you can park in Sainte-Maxime and reach the port without having to travel along the busiest road.

What days is the Place des Lices market open? Tuesday and Saturday mornings. On those mornings, the center is busiest, and the nearby parking lots fill up quickly.

The villa has a dirt driveway: is that a problem? No. Please let us know the access in advance so we can decide together where to park your car and, if necessary, a four-wheel drive model.

Can I start my trip in Saint-Tropez and end it in Italy? Yes. You can pick up the car in France and return it in Italy or elsewhere: just let us know your arrival city when requesting a quote.

What if I change my plans? You can cancel free of charge up to 72 hours before delivery. The booked car, however, will not change: the model is always guaranteed.
