Why rent a luxury car in Zion?

Sion is the heart of the Valais region, surrounded by terraced vineyards and dominated by the two medieval castles of Valère and Tourbillon, just steps from the most famous Alpine ski resorts. A luxury car is perfect for exploring the surrounding valleys and mountains. Milan Luxury Cars will deliver and collect your vehicle directly in Sion, at your hotel, or at the airport—wherever you prefer in Europe.

Sion and Valais by car: how to plan your vacation

Where we deliver your car in Sion

Sion's historic center is traffic-restricted and can be explored easily on foot. The most convenient option is to have your car picked up at your hotel. We can also deliver it to a private address in the city, to a house among the vineyards on the hills, or to a chalet in the side valleys.

Those arriving by train can collect their car at Sion station: this is a practical option for those landing in Geneva and preferring to rest during the journey after an intercontinental flight.

Getting there from Geneva Airport

If you're flying from outside Europe, the most convenient airport is Geneva , about a two-hour drive from Sion. We can meet your car at arrivals: all we need is your flight number and landing time to arrange delivery.

The journey from Geneva to Sion is almost entirely on the motorway, where a Swiss vignette is mandatory: it's an annual electronic sticker that can be purchased online by entering your license plate. Also remember that Switzerland remains outside the European Union: if your journey continues to France or Italy, keep your driver's license and a valid travel document in a convenient place.

A base close to ski resorts

Sion is located in the center of the Rhone Valley, close to the most famous resorts in Valais. Crans-Montana is on the plateau just above the valley, about thirty minutes away. Verbier can be reached in about an hour, passing through Martigny and Le Châble.

To the east, the valley rises to Visp, where the roads to Zermatt and Saas-Fee begin: each takes about an hour and a half. You can pick up your car in town and return it directly to where you'll be spending the week.

Zermatt and Saas-Fee: two car-free villages

Normal cars are not allowed in Zermatt and Saas-Fee. For Zermatt, leave your car in Täsch; for Saas-Fee, park at the entrance to the village and continue on foot or by electric taxi, which will also take your luggage to your hotel.

If you're staying in one of these two towns for a week, it's best to return your car upon arrival and get a new one on your departure day. If you plan to take trips to the nearby valleys, you can park it in the valley.

The vineyards and flavours of Valais

Valais is the region with the largest number of vineyards in Switzerland. Around Sion, the vineyards occupy the south-facing slopes, and many wineries offer tastings to visitors. Typical wines include Fendant, the local name for Chasselas, Petite Arvine, and Cornalin.

This is also the land of raclette, melted cheese served with potatoes, and apricots, which in summer are found at the valley's markets and shops. For a day at the wineries, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class van will carry the whole group in one vehicle: decide in advance who will drive and forgo the tastings.

Off-the-slope day trips

The Val d'Hérens, south of Sion, is a peaceful valley with wooden villages like Evolène. Along the road, you can see the Euseigne pyramids, earth columns topped by large boulders.

In summer, you can walk along one of the bisses, the ancient irrigation canals of Valais: the trails that follow them are almost flat and suitable for children. Remember that Valais is bilingual: east of Sierre, German is spoken, and the names on the signs change—for example, Sion becomes Sitten, while Visp in French is called Viège.

Which car to choose

In winter, for getting to the ski resort after a snowfall, an all-wheel drive SUV is the most comfortable choice: the Range Rover Sport, the Audi Q7, or the Mercedes-AMG G63. During the cold months, every vehicle in our fleet is equipped with winter tires. With seven people on skis, the seven-seater Land Rover Defender 110 eliminates the need for two cars.

Between June and September, the valley is sunny and dry and the nearby passes are open: it's the right season for a discovery like the Porsche 911 (992) 4S Cabriolet or the Ferrari F8 Spider. You can compare mountain-friendly models on the luxury SUV page.

Continue towards Italy or France

From Sion, Italy is close by. Beyond Brig, the Simplon Pass descends toward Domodossola and Lake Maggiore; from Martigny, the toll-free Great St. Bernard Tunnel leads to the Aosta Valley. You can pick up your car in Valais and return it in Courmayeur , Milan, or another Italian city.

To the west, from Martigny, the Col de la Forclaz road leads to Chamonix, France. In winter, always check the condition of the passes before setting off.
