Stuttgart: Car museums, vineyards, and the Black Forest

Delivery in the city, at the airport or at the fair

Stuttgart Airport is located south of the city, on the Filder Plateau, about twenty to thirty minutes from the city center. Messe Stuttgart, the trade fair center, is right next door. If you're arriving for a trade fair, pick up your car at the airport and reach the pavilions in just a few minutes. When booking, please let us know your flight number and landing time. We'll deliver your car to the arrivals hall or an agreed-upon location.

In the city, we deliver to your hotel, the main train station, or a company headquarters. Stuttgart is a hub for the automotive industry and its suppliers: for a business meeting nearby, you can have your car delivered directly to your appointment address.

Mercedes-Benz Museum and Porsche Museum

The two museums can be visited on the same day. The Mercedes-Benz Museum, next to the city stadium, traces the history of the automobile from the first vehicles in the late 19th century to the present day. The Porsche Museum is located in Zuffenhausen, in the north of the city, opposite the brand's historic factory.

To complete your day, you can choose a sporty car from our fleet: for the hilly roads, the Porsche 911 (992) S Coupé and the Porsche 718 Boxster, or the Mercedes-AMG A45 S if you prefer a compact car, easy to park in the city centre.

A city among hills and vineyards

Stuttgart lies in a valley surrounded by hills, and many streets climb steeply toward the residential neighborhoods. Grapevines are grown on the slopes surrounding the city: the region's typical red wines are Trollinger and Lemberger, best sampled in the wine taverns in the hillside neighborhoods.

A short, scenic drive takes you to the funerary chapel on Württemberg Hill in Rotenberg, surrounded by vineyards and overlooking the Neckar Valley. In the center, the Schlossplatz with the New Castle and Königstraße, the pedestrian shopping street, can be explored on foot. If you plan to drive into the city, please indicate this when booking: some German cities have low-emission zones.

Ludwigsburg, Tübingen and Hohenzollern Castle

About half an hour north, Ludwigsburg boasts a grand baroque residence with flower gardens. Tübingen, about 45 minutes south, is a university town on the Neckar, with half-timbered houses and boats propelled along the river.

A little further on, about an hour from Stuttgart, Hohenzollern Castle stands atop a secluded hill on the edge of the Swabian Alb. It's a half-day trip that pairs well with a stop in Tübingen.

The Black Forest and Baden-Baden

Baden-Baden is about an hour west. It is an elegant spa town, listed by UNESCO as one of the Great Spa Cities of Europe, with the Kurhaus and its casino, the thermal baths, and the tree-lined Lichtentaler Allee boulevard along the Oos River.

The Black Forest High Road begins in Baden-Baden, running along the ridges to Freudenstadt, through fir forests and small lakes like Mummelsee. Further south are the Triberg Waterfalls and Lake Titisee. These roads can be snow-covered in winter: in the cold season, all our vehicles are equipped with winter tires, and the Porsche Cayenne S Coupé or the Audi Q7, among our SUVs , offer a high and comfortable driving position.

Lake Constance and Switzerland

Lake Constance is about two hours south. On the German shore, Meersburg has a medieval town overlooking the water and a car ferry that crosses the lake to Constance, home to the island of Mainau, famous for its flower gardens. In Friedrichshafen, the Zeppelin Museum tells the story of airships, while Lindau, an island town connected to the mainland by a bridge, has a harbor with a stone lion and lighthouse.

Zurich can also be reached directly from Stuttgart in about two and a half hours, and along the way you can see the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen. To use Swiss highways, you need an annual vignette, now electronic: you can purchase it online by entering your car's license plate. The country is not part of the European Union: keep your passport and car documents handy.

Which car to choose and where to return it

For a day spent exploring museums and hills, a compact sports car is enough; for a family outing in the Black Forest, the seven-seater Land Rover Defender 110 has room for everyone. If you're looking for a lightweight, essential car for hilly roads, the Lotus Elise S is the perfect choice. German autobahns do not have vignettes; if you find a stretch of road without a general speed limit, remember that speed limit signs and roadworks are common.

The car can be returned to another city: Munich , Frankfurt , Zurich or Italy, for example Milan, crossing Switzerland.
